Using the File Compare Function
PURPOSE
-------
The file compare routine is intended to allow the average user, that
already has a cracked game to compare the cracked version to the original.
The compare routine will find the byte differences between the two files
and allow you to paste those differences to the Add Unprotect fields. All
the user does then is put in the name of the program and a description of
the unprotect and click on save! It's that easy.
The user can also export his (or her) personal cracks in a file by
clicking on the EXPORT menu item.
USAGE
-----
To use the file compare routine, click on ADD UNPROTECT from the main
screen. Once the screen as appeared, click on the TOOLS option at the top
of the screen and select COMPARE. A screen will pop up with several controls.
The big windows on the left will show the byte differences between two files.
The right hand side of the screen is where you select the file locations to
compare. The top one is for selecting the ORIGINAL unmodified file. The
bottom is for selecting the CRACKED version of that file.
Once you slect the ORIGINAL file, you can click on the bottom SYNC button
and the bottom file locations will be set to match the top location. Just
select the CRACKED file and then click on go.
After the routine is finished, the PASTE button should activate. If you
choose, you can click on it and it will fill out the needed fields in the add
unprotect screen. Just type in the program name, and a short description
of how to use the crack and click on save. Your crack will be added to the
main library.
EXPORTING
---------
This is the main reason for adding the compare routine, so that you can
export your files and upload them to BBS, or share them with friends. That
takes some of the burden of me, the programmer, as I need to spend much of my
time developing new code and such. If you will add your unprotects, and
others add their's, then there shouldn't be a program out there that you
can't locate a crack for!
To do this, just click on the EXPORT option from the main screen. Once
selected, you will be given a screen with all the available cracks in the
current database on the left hand side of the screen, and a blank list on the
right. Double click on the unprotect you want to add to your list or
highlight it and press enter.
Once you have choosen all the unprotects you wish to export, click on
the filename field. Give your database a unique filename without a
extension. Next, type in a description of your database. The limit
is 40 characters. Finally, click on the EXPORT button and your database
will be created. You can verify this by clicking on CHANGE LIBRARY from the
main menu. Your database should appear!
If you have any questions, leave me a message on my BBS.
